Advanced Asana Workshop

Why do millions of people practice yoga?  The reason is that yoga brings a sense of freedom and expansiveness to the body, mind and spirit.  This sense of freedom is different from the endorphin high that people experience in Western exercise.  As various poses are mastered, the practitioner experiences enhanced self-esteem – a sense of mastery of his/her world.

Strength-building poses will give you a sense of both internal and external strength, and as you become more flexible in your body, you will become more flexible in your attitudes.  Inversions help to find your internal balance and poise when your life may be upside down.  Back bends open your heart to love and compassion for others.

Normally, in a well-balanced practice you would not do twenty backbends in succession or practice only forward bends, instead you would practice many different types of movements sequenced in a way as to create a feeling of well-being and balance.  By working progressively through the various movements, in a workshop-like setting, you will learn the skills needed to practice these advanced asanas on your own and to feel more clearly their effects on you.

The Advanced Asana Workshops, offered on the 4th Saturday of every month, are organized into families of similar movements and are geared to the ‘beyond beginner but far from accomplished” student; to pre-intermediate and intermediate practitioners.

Props – yoga mats, straps, blocks, blankets, chairs, and walls will be used to enhance your yoga practice.
